- :|>1. Good and fast browsers do not exist
- : Not true. Amigaguide is faster than HTML through max Vax workstation
- : on a LAN. You want a billion dollar browser? at 14.4 baud?
-
- Be fair. That would be an asset only if everyone out there had Amigaguide
- homepages.
-
- I always thought ALynx was Amiga's best browser anyway. :)
-
- :|>2. Graphics cards are too expensive and they are not as fast as their PC
- :|> counterparts.
- : Too expensive? expensive. What did VGA controllers cost when CGA/EGA
- : etc were the standard?
-
- That doesn't justify anything. Again, be fair. We're talking about now,
- when CGA just isn't the standard anymore. This is '96.
-
- :|>3. Amigas are expensive
- : The 16 megs of ram you have is your most expensive item.
-
- *Expandable* Amigas *are* expensive. PC's are dirt cheap nowadays.
- Remember what got the first A500's sold? Price/performance. Now PC's have
- it and Amigas don't!
-
- :|>4. They are not that easy to upgrade. Try adding a graphics card to an A1200
- : Hey, didn't I already say this, why'd you get an A1200 if you want
- : expansion.
-
- *Inexpensive* Amigas are difficult to upgrade. More robust models are much
- easier to upgrade, although Amiga upgrades now tend to cost more than
- upgrades for the other guys.
-
- :|>7. Most games only run in 15 Khz mode because DBLNtsc is slow
- : the intermediate-frequency modes won't survive the decade.
-
- There *is* one Amiga that circumvented that problem. That's right, the one
- TRUE Amiga, the A3000. Kid-tested, mother approved.
-
- :|>8. Amiga games suck compared to the onse in the PC world
- : I have a PC, there are a _lot_ more sucky games in DOS than
- : on the amiga.
-
- There are just more games period. And a lot of the shareware games bite
- big time on the PC. Of course, stuff like Tie Fighter more than redeems
- the PC for games use.
-
- On the Amiga, the shareware games are good and the commercial games bite.
- Go figure.
-
- : By not developing a new sound
- : system, instead keeping the basic one (which worked) they avoid
- : an expense.
-
- Which of course keeps Amigas behind the times. Come on, it *needs* to be
- upgraded!
-
- :|>Here is why I think Amigas are good
-
- :|>1. Good multitasking
-
- Absolutely ... which is why mine is my "internet machine".
-
- :|>2. Operating system does not waste resources like memory and processor
-
- It needs improvement, though. Some of those "processor-wasting" features
- I'd like to see. :)
-
- :|>3. A lot of free software
-
- Unfortunately, free softare doesn't attract developers. We *need* major
- applications on the Amiga.
-
- :|>4. Cool graphics programs ( which are now appearing on PC's)
-
- Great if you do graphics. Not so great if you need to do the books or
- put together a lab report quickly.
